Bleh, notes and more.

This is Blinding

A Rather Special Start to November

I said November would be when I restarted Bleh properly. On the first day of the month, my third granddaughter, Alice, arrived a full five weeks early. After rail replacement buses, a long journey and a couple of hours waiting, I finally met her. She was under lights for jaundice. Then she grabbed my finger.

I said I’d get Bleh going properly again in November. Well, it’s 1 November, and I can’t think of a better way to start.

My third granddaughter, Alice, has arrived. Five weeks early, which was a bit of a shock to everyone. She’s still got a long way to go, but she’s here, and today I got to see her.

Naturally, getting there wasn’t entirely straightforward. Rail replacement buses between Petersfield and Havant meant the journey took considerably longer than usual. Apparently, getting from A to B by train is still rather ambitious.

Then we had to wait a couple of hours while other visitors had their turn. Eventually, we got forty-odd minutes with my son, his wife and their new daughter.

Alice is under lights at the moment because she’s slightly jaundiced. She’s small, of course, but a good weight for five weeks early, and actually a little bigger than I’d imagined. Seeing her there is still something rather overwhelming.

But I was able to put my hand in and touch her.

And she grabbed my finger.

There aren’t many things in this world better than having a newborn grandchild wrap their tiny fingers around yours.

I’m sure it gives them some comfort.

I know it gave me plenty.
