Six weeks after my operation, I’ve had my follow-up CT scan. And now I’ve got the results.
There’s still a bloody stone in my kidney.
A small one, apparently. Which is reassuring, I suppose, if you ignore the fact that I’ve spent nearly fifteen months trying to get rid of them.
So much for A New Hope.
Still, there is some good news. I’ve been discharged. Nobody lost the paperwork, accidentally removed me from a waiting list, or forgot that I exist.
An administrative triumph. I almost feel like sending them a certificate.
There’s just one slight problem.
Of course, the matter of that remaining stone still remains. Whether it stays where it is or decides to cause more trouble remains to be seen. Episode VI: Return of the Stone might yet be necessary. Personally, I’d rather cancel that particular sequel.
But apparently, that’s that. I’ve had the scan, I’ve got the results, and I’ve been discharged.
After all those appointments, delays and missing paperwork, the NHS has finally managed to get rid of me.
Shame they couldn’t manage the same with the stone.
